About the Privacy Law Salon

Inspired by the salons in France during the Enlightenment, the Privacy Law Salon follows the philosophy that the most productive way to generate knowledge and solutions to problems is through informal and close-knit meetings between leaders in the field.

The Roundtables are composed of a series of 2 events: Privacy Law Salon – Miami Roundtable and Privacy Law Salon – Washington Roundtable. Both provide participants an opportunity to have candid conversations about current and future privacy issues, in a closed-door setting, without the listening ears of privacy policymakers.

The key features of each Roundtable are the same:
  • The group composition is a mix of CPOs, corporate leaders of privacy, outside counsel, privacy consultants, service providers and academics.
  • The discussions take place in small groups – 20-25 per room – each led by a knowledgeable academic facilitator.
  • Discussions take place under the Chatham House Rule to give participants the confidence to be forthcoming and share relevant experiences.
  • All those participating will have been identified and invited by the Privacy Law Salon Organizing Committee as senior representatives in the industry, so those at the table are at a known level of expertise. All play a critical role regarding privacy planning, governance and risk strategies in their own or their client organizations.

The environment is created to challenge ones ideas and approaches; leaving participants enriched with new ideas, refreshed approaches, and new contacts.

Organizing Committee
The Roundtables are organized by a committee of privacy academics, who plan the content, build the invitation list and invite special guests to participate in the sessions. They also moderate the seminar-style discussions, and challenge participants to see issues ‘through a different lens’.
